The Global Commitment, what's next?

Posted by Clémence Avignon on Aug 10, 2020 3:21:50 PM

Last year, we signed the Global Commitment. Every single year, organisations, companies & other signatories must review their commitment and reflect. Then, let's do this!

Led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Global Commitment's vision is shared by 450+ organisations globally. Its ambition is to create a circular economy for plastic in which it never becomes waste or pollution.

Each signatory formally endorses the vision and will work following those goals:

Ambition level

Signatories include companies representing 20% of all plastic packaging produced globally and governments, NGOs, universities, industry associations, investors, and other organisations.

Reporting for 2020

To stop plastic pollution, we have to rethink packaging. At RePack, we have the core ambition to remove unnecessary shipping packaging from e-commerce by bringing a reuse model to life, our "Reuse-as-a-Service."

Despite a really disrupted year, we're grateful to see the RePack network growing exponentially. So far, we are partnering with 120+ brands to demolish the single-use era. And we're not stopping there. This year was the beginning of our launch in North America, along with CanadaPost. We've also started to test reusable packaging for C2C shipments

in a pilot project with Matkahuolto here in Finland.

Our ambition for next year is to

  • Grow the network with 200 brands.
  • Expand our service to rental models to support the growth of rental fashion.
  • Develop upcycling projects for discarded RePack packaging, not fit for reuse anymore.
  • Improve our design to reduce even more our impact.

Breaking the Plastic Wave

On the 23rd of July 2020, Breaking the Plastic Wave, a brilliant report on ocean plastics was issued.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation took the initiative to bring their own perspective on such a landmark report to help you digest its key findings and translate them into clear calls-to-action.
